  1. Swim!

    May 2, 2013 by admin

Our kids love playing in water.  And in order to keep them as safe as possible, we had Bluey and Plum start swim lessons during their early toddler years.  TR Mom and Dad wereIMG_0111 more at ease knowing that our youngsters had learned basic water skills like treading water and floating.  But we also know that many parents wait until their kids are around the age of five to embark on formal swim lessons with great success.

IMG_0034We love that Bluey and Plum thoroughly enjoy swimming.  It is wonderful to find a physical activity at a any age that is also fun!  We hope that the joy of engaging in recreational sports sticks with them throughout their lives.

We are very lucky to be able to offer our kids enrollment at a swim school that is staffed with knowledgeable, friendly, and dedicated staff.   Swimwest’s prices are reasonable and they offer a discount to families that homeschool.  Online progress reports, regular achievement ribbons, and occasional postcards of encouragement from the teachers help to create a positive and fun atmosphere for learning.

Our kids have enjoyed every instructor they’ve experienced thus far.  Our Bluey is particularly smitten with his teacher, Ms. Caitlin.  He’s been lucky to have her as his instructor for each and every class level thus far.

We were further impressed with Swimwest during their recent Water Safety Week.  Every level of swimmer was taught appropriate rescue measures that they can safely execute if they, or another swimmer, is in trouble in the water.

There are many resources, for all income levels, for families that want to learn to swim.  Check out your local Recreation Department or YMCA, and remember that group lessons are typically cheaper than individual instruction.  If your child is older, you may even consider a trusted family member to teach basic water skills.
