  1. Make Your Own Nut Mix

    Ever buy a can of mixed nuts or trail mix and wish that there were more of your favorites in it?  Just make your own mix for the next bike ride or lunch-time snack.  It might even be cheaper than those expensive, salty, and sometimes extra sweet, pre-mixed selections.

    Thanks to the bulk bins at your grocery store and local co-op, you can create a custom mix of nuts and other yummies that will keep your family satisfied and healthy.IMG_1795

    Ideas from our local selections include:

    • Peanuts- Plain, or even yogurt covered!
    • Cashews- Plain ones are great, but our Bluey likes the curried cashews best.
    • Almonds-  We buy them roasted and unsalted.
    • Tamari Roasted Nuts or Pumpkin Seeds
    • Dried Pineapple, Papaya, Raisins or Apricots
    • Small Pretzels
    • Sesame Sticks
    • Sweeten the deal with M&M’s or chocolate chips.

     

    Buy your favorites and mix in whatever ratio of stuff that you like!  This way, you’ll always have your favorites on hand for a road trip, hiking, a picnic, or just a late night snack.
