IMG_0089This TR family likes to mix it up.  We’re always interested in an adventure, or for trying out an unique spin on the ordinary.  And if it gets our family outdoors, all the better!

Recently, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and set up breakfast on our 3 season porch.  We can dine while chatting with the bunnies, watching the antics of the squirrels, and enjoying our cats warbled conversation with the backyard birds.  We don’t do anything fancy.  We just moved the typical location of an everyday meal to create a brand new experience.

We also decided to take some of our indoor play to the backyard.  Why not set up a wooden train track in the grass?  Sure, the uneven landscape can make for some bumps.  But we just worked that into our creative play!  There are a plethora of toys that can transition easily from inside to out- from Barbie dolls to building blocks.

You don’t need a ton of space, or a big yard, to incorporate these ideas.  Move 2 chairs to a screened window and eat a sandwich with your child, while guessing which color car will pass by next.  Or a concrete stoop can be a great place to set up some Matchbox track or to build a cardboard doll house.

The only thing keeping you stuck in a play-time rut, or hiding inside, is YOU.
