  1. Water, water everywhere

Do you ever think about the water in your house?  Chances are that you have at some point.  There is a lot of news and advertising out there telling you to be concerned about minerals and toxins in your water supply.  This information may alarm you.  Or maybe you just don’t like the taste of your home’s water.

In our neighborhood and city, there are regular concerns about the quality of the water.  The majority of our neighbors and friends filter their home’s drinking water.

But do you stop at just filtering the drinking water?  What about homemade soups?  Or brewing coffee and boiling pasta?  If you don’t like the taste of your water, or if you have concerns about the quality of it, you shouldn’t cook anything with it!  The off flavors, or unfiltered toxins in your water, will go straight into your food.

If you filter your water to drink, you should also filter it before cooking anything.  We recommend filters as opposed to bottled water.  If you use bottled water for all your cooking needs, you could use three or four large bottles a day!  Yikes!  Using filters is not only the more environmentally sound choice, it is also the easiest on your wallet.

It takes some coordination to use filtered water everywhere.  We have a glass pitcher that helps out.  It fits under our refrigerator water spout  better than most receptacles.  You can fill it before you need it, and have it at the ready on the counter or in the fridge.  It makes getting water from the filter to the coffee pot, or to fill a large pasta pot much easier.

So maybe now is the time to take the next step for you and your family and start using filtered water for all your cooking needs- not just for drinking!  What do you think?
