A good jigsaw puzzle can work the same magic often experienced at a family meal in relation to how it will encourage conversation and enable bonding time. An additional bonus- – puzzles help your child’s intellectual development as well as train adult brains to stay sharp.
Tip: Puzzles are a super cheap find at rummage sales and thrift stores. But even if you choose to buy them retail, the cost is minimal.
Recently, a puzzle helped us break the ice and enjoy a great time with a family member that we don’t see very often. We giggled and gossiped as we struggled to find pieces that would fit together. It was good bonding time.
It took 2 days to finish this 500 piece puzzle.
In order to keep our work relatively undisturbed by our cats and our youngest child, we usually place a few sheets of newspaper on top of the puzzle in process. But we’ve also had success with working directly on top of a sturdy piece of cardboard that can then be transported to a safe spot.
When the weather outside is uninviting, or it is too late in the day for an adventure, don’t forget the simple joy of a puzzle. It can be a great way to spend a few quiet hours as a family!
