  1. Mitchell Park Conservatory

Located within Mitchell Park in Milwaukee, the Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes) is a great way to learn about flora.

IMG_1230There are three distinct Domes to explore:  Desert, Tropical, and the Floral Show.  Our favorite is the Tropical Dome, as it has lovely birds flying around, in addition to plants, fruit, and flowers.

The Conservatory has a center space which connects the three Domes.  There you will find a few tables and chairs, a small gift shop, vending machines and bathrooms, and a very tiny exhibit which houses a turtle, snake, and lizard.IMG_1151

Sine you probably won’t spend more than an hour within The Domes, the admission cost can seem quite steep.  We highly recommend that you consider becoming a “friend” of The Domes.  A family membership is $50 and will open up reciprocal admission to any organization nationwide that participates in the American Horticultural Society.

Tip:  Conservatories can be lovely places to visit in the dead of winter!

During our last visit to The Domes, we made friends with an employee who told us about a brand new bridge within the park that was walking distance from The Domes.  This bridge offers tremendous views of the Milwaukee skyline and, as an added bonus, it spans over a train yard!  Exploring the bridge was a fantastic complement to our visit to The Domes.

We plan to bring a picnic lunch and our bikes on our next visit to The Domes.
